Jeffrey Gavarkovs is a founding partner of NorthStream Capital Inc., and is the portfolio manager. Jeffrey has over twenty years of investment management and research experience, managing proprietary portfolios for three Canadian banks and a European bank. From January 2009 to January 2015, he managed Scotiabank’s Proprietary High Yield Credit investment portfolio and was also Managing Director and Head of High Yield Research and Trading. Jeffrey managed a proprietary portfolio for CIBC World Markets from September 2004 to February 2008 focused on distressed, “soft activism” and special situations. From April 2003 to September 2004, Jeffrey ran a proprietary portfolio at SG Cowen, which included Canadian distressed securities and high yield bonds. Jeffrey began his investment career at BMO Nesbitt Burns, and was a member of the Special Investments team from February 1997 to September 1999. This team managed a total return special situations fund that included distressed debt, preferred shares, high yield bonds and equities. From September 1999 to March 2003, Jeffrey was a sell-side high yield analyst with BMO Nesbitt Burns in New York. Jeffrey has an M.B.A. from the Schulich School of Business (1997) and a Bachelor of Economics degree from York University (1989).

John co-founded NorthStream with Jeff Gavarkovs in 2016 and in his current role as Senior Relationship Consultant, provides senior level contact to Private Clients, Family Offices and key retail accounts. Prior to NorthStream, John was Managing Director of Scotiabank Global Banking & Markets and held a succession of increasingly senior positions in fixed income and debt capital markets during his 27 years with the bank. John was Managing Director and Head of Buy-Side Relationship Management at Scotiabank Europe plc in London, England. Prior to transferring to London, John was Managing Director and Head of Canadian Debt Capital Markets. John holds an MBA from the Schulich School of Business and an Honours BA from the University of Toronto.

Louis is a seasoned investment professional with over 20 years of experience. Prior to joining NorthStream, Louis was the VP of Operations and Compliance and CCO of an SEC registered global investment manager from 2020 Through 2023. Prior to that, Louis was the President and CEO of Silvercove Fund Management, the company he co-founded in 2008, where he also served as a Portfolio Manager. Between 1997 and 2005, Louis spent 3 years in operations followed by 5 years as an Institutional Equity Trader. Louis then moved to the buy-side, joining a boutique investment management firm where he served as the Head Trader and Associate Portfolio Manager from 2005 through 2008. Louis completed an Executive MBA (MBA) at The Ivey Business School at Western University. He holds the Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) designation from the Canadian Securities Institute and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Western Ontario.

Arjit is an analyst at NorthStream and focuses on investment research, portfolio analytics and unitholder communications. Arjit joined NorthStream in 2019 from Deutsche Bank where he was an investment banking associate managing the FICC book with AUM €1.2 billion at Deutsche’s London and Mumbai offices. Arjit completed an MBA and received a Financial Engineering award from the Schulich School of Business. Prior to business school, Arjit worked for Siemens at their Frankfurt headquarters in their corporate strategy division. Arjit also holds a joint MSc degree from the University of Bolton (England) & Fachhochschule Südwestfalen (Germany) along with a Bachelor of Engineering (Gold medalist).
